Spanish

Welcome to the Spanish page!

This year every class is starting to learn Spanish. In Reception we have 30 minutes a week, mostly involving basic language like greetings, numbers, days of the week and colours. With such young classes, we use a lot of songs with actions to help remember new words and as the year goes on we will be progressing to pupils having basic conversations with each other and asking and answering questions. We will also include lessons to teach our children about the way of life and culture in Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries.

All the other classes have 1 hour of Spanish per week. In Years 1 and 2 we are focusing on learning the basics, such as numbers, letters and colours and we will be progressing to using adjectives to describe objects and people. Pupils will be able to give information about themselves and people in their families. We will also include lessons to teach our children about the way of life and culture in Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries.

Key Stage 2 pupils will also be learning the basics at first, but in addition will be learning about Spanish food and healthy lifestyles, Spanish TV and films and what life is like for young people in Spain and Spanish-speaking countries.
