Today, in year 4, a Roman centurion visited us to teach us all about his life, particularly the battles he took place in and the archaeological digs he saw.
Firstly, we learnt about a roman soldier’s weapons and armour. We even saw the moves they would make in battle.
After that, we became archaeologists! We used magnifying glasses and brushes to uncover real artefacts from the past in sand. It was so exciting when we got to guess what the artefacts actually were. We drew some fantastic representations of the artefacts in our books.
Later, we got to play real Roman board games. One was similar to noughts and crosses whilst another was similar to chess. We played in our teams to try them out.
Once we had eaten our lunch, we went back into the hall and practiced using different battle techniques that the Romans and Britons used when they invade Britain. The Romans always fight as a team.
To finish our exciting day, we listened to the story of Rome, including its creation with Romulus and Remus, alongside the kings and emperors that made it so powerful. We were fascinated by Julius Caesar’s story.
Overall, we have had an incredible day of fun, excitement and learning.
