Y5 Tag Rugby Day

This week the whole cohort of Y5 were very lucky in receiving some Tag Rugby sessions led by the Sheffield Eagles Rugby team.

In the morning, the children got to learn the basic rules of rugby such as how to pass and handle the ball, as well as playing some small games of tag rugby. The children got to practice what they had learnt throughout the session in order to improve their rugby skills.

In the afternoon, the children took part in a workshop with the Literacy Kicks team from the Sheffield Eagles which focussed on how to report and commentate on a rugby game. The session focussed on the match where the Sheffield Eagles won against the Wigan Warriors in the Challenge Cup. The task for the children was to write a newspaper article commentating on what happened within the game as if they were journalists. They got to watch small snippets of the match, with the coaches asking them to identify certain key skills and movements they had learnt from the morning session of tag rugby.

The Sheffield Eagles were very impressed with the standard of work produced from all the Y5 cohort as well as their class teachers feeling proud of their achievements for the day.

The children will get further opportunities throughout the year to take part in workshops with the Sheffield Eagles of which are they all looking forward to.
