Admissions Information

At Hatfield Academy, we operate an “open door” policy and prospective parents are welcome to visit the school.

The PAN (Published Admission Number) for each year group is 60, with a total of 420 places available at Hatfield Academy.

Please contact us to make an appointment prior to your visit.

The school follows the Local Authority (LA) Admissions Guidance. Children whose fifth birthday falls between 1st September and the 31st August will normally be admitted to full-time schooling in a reception class in September. Children whose fifth birthday falls between 1st March and the end of August can if they choose be admitted to full-time schooling in a reception class later in January.

Admissions are administered by the LA based on our admissions policy.

Nursery Provision

Hatfield Academy does not have a nursery provision. Children join the academy in Reception in the September following their fourth birthday.

Information about applying for a Reception place can be found below.

Applying for a Reception Place

Children are normally admitted to Reception in the September following their fourth birthday.

Applications for a Reception place at Hatfield Academy are coordinated by Sheffield City Council. Parents and carers should apply through the Local Authority where they live, even if Hatfield Academy is their preferred school.

The Published Admission Number (PAN) for Reception is 60 pupils.

For children starting Reception in September 2027, the national closing date for applications is 15 January 2027.

Applications can be made online through Sheffield City Council’s school admissions service. Information about the application process, admission arrangements, key dates and how places are allocated can also be found on the Sheffield City Council website.

If you would like to visit Hatfield Academy before applying for a place, please contact the school office. We would be very happy to welcome you and show you around.

All admissions to school at age five are administered by the Primary Admissions Team at Moorfoot.

Follow the link to apply for a 2027 school place.

In-Year Admissions

An in-year admission is an application for a school place made during the school year, or for a year group other than the normal Reception admission round.

In-year applications for Hatfield Academy are coordinated by Sheffield City Council.

If you would like to apply for a place at Hatfield Academy, you should complete an in-year application through Sheffield City Council’s school admissions service. The Local Authority will provide information about the application process and current school places.

The Published Admission Number (PAN) is 60 pupils in each year group. Where a year group is full, parents and carers still have the right to apply for a place and, if a place cannot be offered, will be informed about their right of appeal.

Families considering an in-year application are very welcome to contact the academy to discuss their child’s needs and arrange a visit.

More information and an online application form and guidance is available at https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/schools-childcare/apply-school-place

Admissions Appeals

If your child is refused a place at Hatfield Academy, you have the right to appeal to an Independent Appeal Panel.

Appeals for Hatfield Academy are administered by Sheffield City Council. The appeal panel is independent of both the academy and the Local Authority.

Reception appeals

Parents and carers who are refused a Reception place will be provided with information about how to appeal. Reception admission appeals normally take place during the summer term following National Offer Day.

Appeals submitted after the published deadline will be treated as late appeals and heard as soon as reasonably practicable.

In-year appeals

If your child is refused a place following an in-year application, you also have the right to appeal. In-year admission appeals can be made throughout the school year.

Appeal timetable and how to appeal

Sheffield City Council publishes the current appeals timetable, deadlines, appeal forms and guidance for parents and carers on its website.

Follow the link for appeals.

Parents and carers should check the Sheffield City Council website for the latest dates and information before submitting an appeal.

Following an appeal hearing, Sheffield City Council will normally send the decision letter within five school days.
