Uniform
School Uniform
At Hatfield Academy, we are proud of our school uniform and the sense of belonging it creates within our community. Wearing school uniform helps children to feel part of the school, promotes equality and supports a positive attitude towards learning.
In line with our commitment to keeping school uniform affordable, there is no expectation for pupils to wear clothing with the Hatfield Academy logo. Families are welcome to purchase plain uniform items from any retailer, provided they match the school’s uniform colours and requirements. The most important aspect of our uniform is that pupils wear the correct colours and present themselves smartly and ready to learn.
For families who wish to purchase logo uniform, branded items are available through our supplier:
Full details of our uniform requirements can be found in our Uniform Policy. If you require any support with uniform, please contact the school office, where a member of staff will be happy to help.
Supporting your child
At Hatfield Academy, we recognise that parents and carers are children’s first and most important educators. By working together, we can ensure that every child develops the competence, confidence and care needed to achieve their full potential. The information and resources below will help you support your child’s learning, wellbeing and personal development at home.
Starting reception
Starting school is a significant milestone for every child and family, and we are committed to making the transition to Hatfield Academy a positive and exciting experience.
Our Reception team works closely with families, nurseries and pre-school settings to ensure that every child feels happy, safe and ready to begin their learning journey. Through home visits, transition visits, parent information sessions and opportunities to meet key members of staff, we help children become familiar with their new environment and build confidence before they start school.
At Hatfield Academy, our values of Competence, Confidence and Care are at the heart of everything we do. We nurture children’s curiosity, independence and love of learning from the very beginning, ensuring that they feel valued, supported and inspired to achieve their very best.
We look forward to welcoming you to our school community and working in partnership to help your child learn, thrive and succeed.
Starting school
A warm welcome to Hatfield Academy. Whether your child is joining us from another local school or moving from further afield, we understand that starting somewhere new can feel both exciting and daunting.
Before your child’s start date, you will have the opportunity to visit the school with your child, meet members of staff and become familiar with the school environment. These visits help children feel comfortable and confident ahead of their first day and provide families with the chance to ask any questions they may have.
Our dedicated staff are committed to ensuring that every new pupil settles quickly and feels a sense of belonging from their very first day. We take time to get to know each child as an individual, helping them build friendships, understand routines and become confident members of our school community.
At Hatfield Academy, we pride ourselves on creating a caring and inclusive environment where every child is supported to achieve their full potential. Guided by our ethos of Competence, Confidence and Care, we work closely with families to ensure a smooth transition and provide the support needed for children to feel happy, secure and successful.
We are delighted that you have chosen to join our school and look forward to welcoming your family to the Hatfield community.
Attendance
Good attendance is essential for children to achieve their full potential. Every day in school provides valuable opportunities for learning, developing friendships and building the confidence and skills needed for future success. Children who attend school regularly are more likely to make strong academic progress, feel connected to their school community and develop positive habits for life.
At Hatfield Academy, we work in partnership with families to promote excellent attendance and punctuality. We understand that there may be times when support is needed, and we are committed to working together to overcome any barriers to attendance.
For further information, advice and support, parents and carers can visit the Sheffield Attendance Matters website:
Together, through competence, confidence and care, we can ensure that every child benefits from the opportunities that regular attendance provides and is able to learn, thrive and succeed.
Reading
Reading is the foundation of learning and plays a vital role in your child’s academic success. We encourage all children to read regularly at home and to share books with family members whenever possible. Reading together helps to develop vocabulary, comprehension, fluency and a lifelong love of books. We will provide guidance and resources to help you support your child’s reading journey at every stage.
We also encourage all families to join their local library. Libraries provide free access to a wide range of books, audiobooks, digital resources and activities for children, helping to foster a lifelong love of reading beyond the classroom. Our local library, Firth Park Library, offers a welcoming environment for children and families and can support your child’s reading development throughout their time at Hatfield Academy. For more information about membership, opening times and services, visit Firth Park Library.
Maths
Developing confidence in maths begins with regular practice and positive encouragement. Simple everyday activities such as counting, telling the time, handling money and discussing numbers can help children apply their mathematical learning in real-life situations. We provide resources and guidance to support children in building strong mathematical knowledge and fluency.
Children can also access Sumdog, an engaging online learning platform that helps develop mathematical fluency through interactive games and challenges. Sumdog adapts to each child’s individual level, making learning enjoyable while reinforcing key mathematical skills taught in school. You can access Sumdog here:
Online safety
Technology plays an important role in children’s lives, and it is essential that they learn how to use it safely, responsibly and respectfully. At Hatfield Academy, online safety is taught through our curriculum and dedicated online safety lessons, helping pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to navigate the digital world safely.
Parents and carers play a vital role in supporting children online. We encourage families to take an active interest in their child’s online activity, discuss safe online behaviours and regularly review privacy settings, parental controls and age restrictions on apps, games and devices.
The following websites provide trusted advice, guidance and resources for parents and carers:
- NSPCC Online Safety Hub for Parents and Carers – practical advice on apps, gaming, social media, parental controls and online risks.
- Thinkuknow (CEOP) Parent Information – expert guidance from the National Crime Agency on helping children stay safe online.
- UK Safer Internet Centre – Parents and Carers – age-specific guides, online safety tips and advice on current online trends.
- Internet Matters – support for setting parental controls, managing screen time and understanding popular apps, games and social media platforms.
- Common Sense Media Parent Guides – reviews of apps, games, films and websites, alongside age-appropriate recommendations for families.
By working together, we can help children develop the competence, confidence and care needed to use technology safely and make positive choices online.
Communication
Working together
At Hatfield Academy, we value strong partnerships with parents and carers and believe that regular communication is key to supporting every child’s success. Throughout the year, we hold two formal parents’ meetings, providing opportunities to discuss your child’s progress, celebrate achievements and identify next steps in learning. In addition, families receive regular updates about their child’s attainment, attendance and wider school experiences.
We also operate an open-door approach and encourage parents to speak with teachers whenever they have a question or concern. The best time to speak with class teachers is at the end of the school day once children have been safely dismissed. If a longer discussion is required, appointments can be arranged through the school office. Parents can also send messages via ClassDojo, which are monitored during the school day and responded to as soon as possible.
By working together, we can ensure that every child receives the support they need to learn, thrive and succeed.
ClassDojo
At Hatfield Academy, we believe that strong communication between home and school is essential to supporting every child’s success. We use ClassDojo as our primary communication platform, allowing us to share important information quickly and effectively with parents and carers.
ClassDojo helps families stay connected to school life by providing updates from teachers, reminders about upcoming events, messages regarding your child’s learning and opportunities to celebrate achievements both in and out of school. The platform enables direct communication between parents and school staff, helping to strengthen our partnership and ensuring that any questions or concerns can be addressed promptly.
Parents can access ClassDojo via the website or mobile app:
By using ClassDojo, we can work together to support children’s learning, wellbeing and personal development, keeping parents informed and engaged throughout their child’s journey at Hatfield Academy.
Parent View
Parent View is an online facility that allows parents and carers to give their views about their child’s school at any time of the school year. The questionnaire asks for your opinion on 12 aspects of our school, from the quality of teaching, to dealing with bullying and poor behaviour. Ofsted then uses this information when making decisions about which schools to inspect, and when. By sharing your views, you’ll be helping the school to improve.
To take the questionnaire or see other parents’ feedback, please visit Parent View.
Parents Forum
Parents Forum will enable you, as parents/carers, to give your opinion on the academy and share parental strategies as well as tell us ways you feel we can improve.
