At Hatfield Academy, we believe that every child should be given the knowledge, skills and experiences they need to learn, thrive and succeed. Our curriculum is ambitious, inclusive and carefully designed to help every pupil achieve academically while developing the character and confidence needed for life beyond the classroom.
Everything we do is underpinned by our 3Cs. We build competent learners by building secure knowledge, strong subject understanding and the skills needed to think critically, solve problems and communicate effectively. We grow confidence by encouraging children to embrace challenge, take pride in their achievements, persevere when learning is difficult and become independent learners. We create care by helping children develop kindness, respect, responsibility and empathy, ensuring they contribute positively to our school, their community and the wider world.
Our curriculum follows and exceeds the National Curriculum, providing a broad and balanced education that builds knowledge progressively from the Early Years through to Year 6. Alongside English, mathematics and science, pupils enjoy a rich curriculum including history, geography, computing, art, design and technology, music, physical education, languages, religious education and personal development. Each subject has been carefully sequenced so that children know more, remember more and can apply their learning with increasing confidence.
At Hatfield Academy, we know that learning happens best when children are encouraged to think deeply, explain their ideas and learn from one another. We are proud to be recognised as a Voice 21 Oracy Centre of Excellence, reflecting our commitment to developing every child’s speaking, listening and communication skills. Oracy is woven throughout our curriculum, helping pupils articulate their thinking, ask thoughtful questions, debate respectfully and work collaboratively. These skills not only strengthen academic learning but also prepare children to become confident communicators and active citizens.
Learning extends far beyond individual lessons. High-quality teaching, purposeful talk, enrichment experiences, educational visits, leadership opportunities and extra-curricular activities all work together to deepen understanding, broaden horizons and develop character. Every experience is designed to help children make meaningful connections between what they learn in school and the world around them.
As part of the Astrea Academy Trust, we benefit from a shared commitment to educational excellence, drawing on evidence-informed practice, high-quality curriculum resources and collaboration across our family of schools. This ensures every child receives the very best opportunities to flourish.
Through our curriculum, our commitment to oracy, our enrichment programme and our shared values, we prepare children not only to achieve highly in school but also to become competent, confident and caring young people who are ready to learn, thrive and succeed throughout their lives.
