Inclusion & SEND

At Hatfield we are committed to ensuring that every child gets the best support we can offer in order to help them to: come in to school ready to learn; enjoy learning alongside their peers; feel a sense of achievement and make the best progress possible.

We recognise that pupils are individuals with individual needs. Pupils learn at different rates and there are many factors that influence children’s achievement and attainment.  Sometimes children need additional support to give them a boost or to help them catch up with other children of the same age. They may need this support for a short time or a longer period, but during this time we will monitor their progress, look carefully at what additional support they need and keep in close touch with their parents/carers.

In Sheffield, there is a graduated approach to managing effectively the needs of children with SEND. Please see the poster below.

At Hatfield, pupils who are on the Special Educational Needs register will have a personalised support plan. This will be created by their class teacher through discussion with the previous teacher and support staff working with them. These children will have their plan reviewed by their class teacher and parents at a parent’s meeting.

Some children may have more complex additional needs where outside agencies may be involved. With the support of agencies, outcomes for the plan will be advised. The support plan will become what’s now known as in Sheffield, as an Extended Support Plan. The SENDCo, Mrs Collins, will meet with these parents to review the outcomes.

Some children have an Education, Health and Care Plan. These are a statutory plan which is formed in a consultation with all agencies involved. This plan is reviewed formally, annually. Children with an EHCP tend to have the highest level of need.
