Year 5

What we’re up to in Year 5!

This half-term, we are focusing on the polar regions of the world. Our children will be learning all about the famous explorer ‘Ernest Shackleton’ and how he made his way through the gruelling temperatures of the Antarctic. We will be writing a factual non-chronological report about aspects of Antarctica.

In art, we will be concentrating on printing techniques and the importance of repetition of shapes. We will then look at Inuit art work from the Artic region.

During our STEM based outcome, we will be doing a range of activities.  We will look at the features of Ernest Shackleton’s ship, how it got trapped in the ice and research ways in which we could improve the design of the it.

PE this half term will be centred on the principles of fitness and athletics. Our PE days have changed and to Monday and Thursday. Please ensure your child has their kit as they will not be able to take part.

If you have any concerns, comments or suggestions, we would love to hear from you- Miss Bailey and Miss Norrie will be available at classroom doors at the end of each day.

Many Thanks,

Miss Bailey and Miss Norrie

Thank you to the employers who have supported us with STEM this year
